Lyrics: The Furriest Noël

December 25, 2011

THE FURRIEST NOËL

words by WeenyOwl, to the tune of ‘The First Noël’ (trad.)
(You can listen to the song here.)

Oh the furriest Noël, gather ‘round and you’ll hear
How it happened when Remus was in his fifth year:
Sure it gave him no joy, knowing Christmas came soon,
For that year it was falling upon the Full Moon.

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!

From the first year that he came to attend Hogwarts School,
Young Remus looked forward to every new Yule.
Though he scarcely ever had a Galleon to spend,
His presence at Christmas was a gift to each friend.

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!

In the moonlight atop the Astronomy Tower,
Calculating its phases right down to the hour,
He could think of no spell that might grant him reprieve
From a cruel transformation that next Christmas Eve.

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!

In the Headmaster’s office they spoke quite alone:
‘You’re a man now, young Remus, and almost full-grown.
‘Your parents won’t be safe if I let you go back,
‘So it’s Christmas for you in the old Shrieking Shack.’

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!

On Midwinter’s morn, disguising his pain,
He embraced his three friends as they boarded the train.
But young Sirius he grinned and he winked roguishly,
Saying, ‘Look for surprises all under the tree.’

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!

As the Christmas Eve Sun sank into its bed,
Underneath that great Willow once more he was led.
As the night drew on, and the Full Moon did rise,
By the Forbidden Forest shone three pairs of eyes.

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!

In misery he lay, turned a Werewolf once more,
When he heard someone scratch at the Shrieking Shack’s door:
Three Magi stood there, in their animal guise,
Knowing friendship’s the best gift for men who are wise.

Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël
Your friends are with you and all will be well!
