Severus Snape, Potions Master
A filk by Valeria-Johanna of a traditional ballad, Sam Hall. It’s sung here by Valeria-Johanna, who also made the artwork.
‘Sam Hall’ (or ‘Jack Hall’) is a ballad, originally 18th century English, though it exists in a number of variations, including one sung by Johnny Cash. It belongs to the genre known as a ‘Last Goodnight’, purporting to be the words of a condemned man on his way to the gallows. Although this is not exactly Snape’s position, I think it must be very much the way he feels towards the end of ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, when he goes off, his cold, black eyes glittering, to carry out his unspecified dangerous task.
The lyrics are here.
For the sequel, you can listen to ‘The Double Agent’.
